JILL TERLEP

JILL TERLEPJILL TERLEPJILL TERLEP

About me

Hi!

Thanks for visiting!

I grew up in a small town in Indiana—a little dot on the map—with cornfields, horses, and cows as our view. Since we didn't actually own any of those animals, I had to find excitement another way: reading.

With my husband, I've had the chance to live out some of the adventures that I read about as a kid. Not the time travel or super-spy stuff but living in a variety of great places like Washington DC, Virginia Beach, Chicago, Atlanta, and Detroit, among others. I've gotten a glimpse into some of the worlds in those books, a chance to explore, and the opportunity to get to know many fascinating people along the way.

Although I enjoy a great adventure, I'm a nester at heart, and I love a place where I can walk and greet my neighbors by name. Today, you can find me in the suburbs of Detroit or Northern Michigan writing, researching, editing, hanging out with my husband and kids, or walking our fluffy dog.

My Background

I am a traditionally published author and a NCHMA Certified Market Analyst. I contract with a boutique consulting firm that conducts market studies for developers, housing agencies, and municipalities for multifamily housing. Additionally, I am the co-author of State of Indiana: Age-Restricted Housing Supply and Demand, a yearlong analysis of the housing needs facing an aging population.

  • I offer economic editing for market studies and business publications for a variety of industries. Depending on the client, these business edits might be called developmental, technical, substantive, or reviews.
  • My proposals have resulted in the award of major contracts.

My job allows me to write, read, analyze, edit, and create proposals--all fun things in my opinion.

I am a board member of MAPS (Mullett Lake Area Preservation Society), an organization that promotes practical lake management to protect and preserve the natural character and water quality of Mullett Lake and its surrounding watershed.

Prior to having kids, I was a territory manager for a leading medical company in wound care sales and a key account manager for a global-branded food company.

I am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association and published  with a traditional publisher in educational non-fiction. I graduated with a BS in Economics from Purdue University. For details, please visit my LinkedIn profile and connect with me.

Editing and Analysis (Fun?) Facts

  • Over 30,000: The number of pages I've reviewed for accuracy and message clarity as a developmental editor for businesses.
  • Over 3,000,000: The number of data points I've helped untangle for a single report to help the reader understand current and future projections for housing. (I'm not going to estimate how many I've dealt with overall!)
  • Over 3,000: The number of pages of reports and books I've authored or co-authored.

Fun might be a stretch, but I enjoy the challenge of taking a mountain of data, graphs, and facts and arranging the pieces to create a compelling narrative. And I love taking an individual or company's skillset and crafting a proposal designed to win a job.

Do 30,000, 3,000,000, or 3,000 matter? No, but if they caught your attention and kept you reading--goal achieved!

In the end, my goal is always the same: a polished piece that keeps someone turning the page or scrolling--that's a win for the reader in business or fiction!
